What is concussion?

Eoin Morgan on concussion in cricket

Eoin Morgan talks about his experience of dealing with concussion in cricket after receiving a blow to the helmet against Australia.

Concussion is a complex and potentially significant brain injury that must be taken seriously. Failure to do so can have major immediate and long-term consequences.

Adequate care must be taken to identify concussion, as it can be difficult to diagnose and symptoms may also take time to present.

Any player with a suspected concussion must be removed from the field of play and undergo stepwise assessments.

For more information, the full ECB concussion and head injury guidelines are available to download here (PDF).

Any suspected concussion requires a graded return to play and a player will miss the remainder of a match if they are deemed to be affected.

Children and adolecents require special considerations when identifying and treating concussion.

Concussion and you

All stakeholders in the game have a responsibility to follow the ECB's guidelines in the possible occurrence of a concussion on the field of play.
